A cascade system of 2 x 16 kw heat pumps was installed in Mistletoe Castle in Youghal in June 2014 to heat 2500 sqft of underfloor heating on ground level which is split into two sections, each independently controlled by xCC control system based on the outdoor and indoor temperature, 14 cast iron radiators in second floor heat amounts also based on the outdoor and indoor temperature but higher heat gradients than underfloor heating, there is 5 more cast iron radiators in next two floors in the tower of the castle.
The whole castle is kept at 21- 23 degrees in the living areas, 18 - 20 degrees in the bedrooms. The system also provides all domestic hot water requirements for kitchen and 5 bathrooms with baths and showers with rain shower heads.
The castle was not occupied for couple of decades and for the first time that has been heated fully throughout. It took a bid of effort to dry all of 2 ft tick dump walls and floors. The expected running cost of the heating system to provide heat and domestic hot water was €2,400 annually. After we took the reading of meters dedicated to AC Heating system this week, the running cost turned out to be: 14 800 Kwh per 14 months.
14,800 / 14 = 1057 Kwh average per month = 12,687 Kwh per Year @ 0.14 Cents per Kwh (average between day and night rate) = Annual expenditure for all heating and domestic hot water = €1776 including drying up the house.
That made the residence of the castle very happy customers over all !!!
